Photographing Anam Cara Interactions

Successful photography of interactions between pairs of aman caras requires capturing a "picture-as-being-together" within a context involving interaction as anam caras in reality and/or imagination, as in these photographs by Raluca O'Callaghan illustrate.

Upon reflection, a particular context in photographing Aman Cara situations, where the meaningful focus in on anam cara in a unified world that was /is/will be the situation for an interaction with a childhood anam cara (as in the (Photograph, shown in section 2.2, above, of Patrick Humphreys returning to Bantham, to recover playfulness and re-imagining challenging the waves with his childhood anam cara.
 
 The key here is that the person who is the initial attractor for the viewer's gaze is not presenting themself for the attention of the viewer ("what a nice portrait"), but functions to draw the viewer into a situation (physical representation of context) where the anam caras' interaction (presently displayed in the photograph or imagined by the viewer) is the key to appreciation of the significance generated by the photograph for its viewer. As such, it provides a description of the context of interest to the viewer in rich visual language
